One notable example of government intervention in purchasing is the “K-Quarantine” initiative, launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This program aimed to strengthen domestic supply chains for essential medical and pharmaceutical products, reducing reliance on foreign suppliers. It involved partnerships between the government, industry associations, and companies to ramp up domestic production capacity and secure critical supplies.
Korea’s unique cultural and social dynamics also play a role in purchasing decisions. The concept of “nunchi,” or the ability to gauge the emotions and intentions of others, is highly valued in Korean society. In 流動迷你倉 , nunchi can be a valuable asset, helping negotiators understand the needs and expectations of their counterparts and build stronger relationships. Face-saving, or “jeongseong,” is another cultural consideration that can impact purchasing negotiations. Maintaining harmony and avoiding conflict is important in Korean culture, and this can influence the way negotiations are conducted and agreements are reached.
The concept of “han,” a deep-seated sense of unresolved injustice or resentment, can also play a role in purchasing relationships. If a supplier feels they have been treated unfairly or that their contributions have not been adequately recognized, it can create lingering tensions that affect the relationship.
Korean companies are also increasingly focused on sustainability in their purchasing practices. Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations are becoming more prominent, and companies are taking steps to ensure that their supply chains are ethical and environmentally responsible. This includes efforts to reduce carbon emissions, eliminate child labor, and promote fair labor practices.
